The credit card security code is a three- or
four-digit number printed on the credit card that is not part of
the embossed account number. Depending upon the type of credit card,
the security code is known as CVV2, CVC2, or CID. Requiring the
customer to provide a security code helps prevent fraud in transactions
where payment information is transmitted by mail, phone or internet,
because the value does not appear on receipts or statements, but
only on the card itself.
On MasterCard, Visa, and Discover cards, the
three-digit security code is on the back of the card on the signature
plate after the full or partial account number.

On American Express cards, the printed four-digit
number is on the front of the card above the account number.
All EdgCapture clients, including the Transaction
Manager, accept the security code. In compliance with payment network
regulations, the value is not stored in the EdgCapture database. That
means this value does not appear on reports or in the Transaction
Detail, and it is not copied when you create a new transaction using
Copy and Paste.
When you submit a security code with a transaction,
the payment network returns a reply indicating whether the code
matches the account record. This reply is displayed in the Transaction
Detail.
